Hi Jim.

The rail is in 3 ft lengths. What I plan to do is postion the turnout and cut the rail to whatever lenght needed.
The jig is 6 in long I felt that was long enough to start with until i get the hang of itthen we micht go a bit longer.
I will have a pc tie every 1 ft to help with gauge and for power feeds but I won't have power on every pc tie.

Thats a big heap of ties you have there! How long is your tie jig? How long are the N rail sections? I know.....so many questions but I'm following your construction closely as one day I might try my hand at hand laying some HOn3 track; or in my case perhaps dual gauge HO - HOn3 sections. Keep up the good work!!!

Warren, you're a better man than I. I would have chunked all that out in the yard a long time ago. LOL. That is some fine work. Considering it is N scale, I think it's great work. Keep it up, and keep us posted.

Hi All.

Sorry i didn't answer sooner Jim but I've been thinking about it.
I've decided to use joiners to start with to allow movement with temp changes.

While I'm in the chat room i spend some cutting these.


Here's one of the tie jig.


Here it is loaded ready to go.


Then once the glue is on the cork we lay them out.


Then I lay some wieghts and allow to dry for 24 hrs.

Glad to see the track crew at it again 
After mastering the turnouts that you have made, laying straight track sections will really go fast for you.
How long are the sections that you will be building; and will the connections be soldered or just coupled together?

Well after much delay some progress towards track laying has began. 

Over the last couple of days I manage to start the tie jig for main line.

It's not finished yet but here are some pics.




The next week should see it finished so I can start laying some ties and rail.

yes the whole shebang. Isaw a handlaid HOn3 about 15 years ago and loved it.

I thought it just had that something extra and decided then that when I did mine I would handlay but my concern was turnouts being relable. Upon finding fastrack and getting a jig and using it alot of my fears have gone.

I have given myself 25 to life for it  LOL.

I hope to start laying track in next couple of weeks waiting for order of ties from kappler mill and lumber co.

WOW! I just saw Your track plan. Are you going to hand lay the whole shebang? That is some major modeling if You are. My hats off to You either way. I can't wait to see the final result, should be awe inspiring if what we see so far is an indication. Your photos are great. Thanks for sharing.

Hi all.

  Since I'm on a roll. I will be hand laying trackwork in code 55. For the turnouts I 've purchased a jig from fastrack.

I have found it to be very easy to use and are very impressed with it. As i need 90 odd seemed to be a good idea to match with track.

It is not a very good photo as I'm aslo learning that I will try to get better and post a better shot later.
